Company inclusion
The intended universe includes privately held technology companies with a substantial operating presence in the Silicon Valley ecosystem. Public companies and acquired businesses will be retained as historical records and excluded from active private-company rankings.
The present demo includes 100 fictional private companies across 14 primary sectors. All records are synthetic and are not a claim of comprehensive coverage.
What we mean by Silicon Valley
The core geographic scope comprises San Francisco, San Mateo and Santa Clara counties. Companies elsewhere may be included as ecosystem-linked only when a material operating or investor relationship is documented. Their non-core location must remain visible.
Geographic inclusion is a coverage definition, not an assertion that all capital in a tracked round originated in Silicon Valley. The demo uses six cities within the core scope.
Funding round classification
Rounds follow the issuer’s disclosed classification: Pre-Seed, Seed, Series A, Series B, Series C+, Growth, Debt, Secondary or Tender Offer. Extensions must reference the original round to avoid double counting.
Capital-deployment aggregates in this edition sum equity funding amounts in USD by announcement date and primary company sector. Debt, tender offers and secondary transfers are not mixed into primary-equity totals. Investor participation does not establish individual check size.
Valuations and missing information
The intended headline valuation is the latest supported post-money valuation from a primary financing, with its date and source. Pre-money values, reported estimates and secondary observations must be identified separately. A stale private valuation is not a current market price.
Unavailable values remain null. We do not infer zero, interpolate a valuation or convert a funding amount into a company value. Financial values in this demo are illustrative and Unverified.
Source hierarchy
Tier 1: original company announcements, SEC and other regulatory filings, investor relations materials and fund announcements. Tier 2: Reuters, Bloomberg, Financial Times and The Wall Street Journal. Tier 3: established specialist publications and licensed databases. Tier 4: other secondary reporting, requiring additional review.
Verified means an original source has been checked. Reported means attributable reporting has been recorded without full independent verification. Estimated identifies an explicitly documented calculation or estimate. Unverified means the claim has not met the verification standard. These labels are not guarantees.
SVI 100 methodology
SVI 100 is an editorial and data ranking, not an investable financial index or recommendation. A factual edition will consider valuation, capital raised, investor quality, growth, market importance, innovation, organizational momentum and sector leadership with documented editorial judgment.
No composite score is currently claimed. The demo ranks by illustrative valuation descending, then total funding; missing valuations appear last. Exactly 100 fictional companies are shown. Momentum and previous rank are generated solely to demonstrate the interface.
A future edition must publish its universe, review date, evidence window, exclusions and material methodology changes. Any weighted scoring method will be disclosed before it is used.
Snapshots, charts and comparisons
YTD means January 1 through September 18, 2026, the fixed demo as-of date. Sector YoY compares January 1–September 18 in 2026 and 2025. The median is the midpoint of disclosed round amounts; investors are deduplicated across lead and participant roles.
Chart periods begin on the first day of the earliest included month and end on the dataset date. Prior-period comparisons use the preceding equal number of calendar months. The current month is partial; these comparisons are descriptive, not normalized growth estimates. Data coverage begins in 2024. Empty earlier months mean no tracked records, not evidence of no real market activity.
A company has one primary sector for aggregation. Secondary sector relationships may be stored for discovery, but they must not cause a round to appear twice in the total.
Updates and verification policy
The demo dataset is a fixed edition published and retrieved on September 18, 2026. Nothing is streamed or presented as real time. Future updates will be reviewed before publication, carry an as-of date and preserve original citations.
Corrections will trigger recalculation of affected aggregates and an audit record. Last verified remains unavailable for this synthetic edition.
